Let The Good Times Roll

A few hours of sleep under our belts and we were back on the road.

We had several states to head north. Our end goal was Badlands, SD. How far we'd get, we weren't sure. We had a long way to go and a short time to get there

We drove all day, headed north

We got as far as St. Louis Missouri before dark, but kept driving.  Once we got to St. Louis, we headed a little west and then were headed north again.

As we got between St. Louis and Kansas City, we started seeing a big storm coming towards Kansas City.  We watch truckers when we see storms coming in.  You can gauge how strong a storm is by if truckers are still running, then its not too bad.  If truckers stop, so should you. Free advice.  You're welcome!

Decided to stop and get some fuel for the truck and for the generator before going more towards Kansas City.

By the time we stopped, this is what the radar looked like.

It was raining so hard it was pouring off semi trucks like a waterfall.  We pulled into a truck stop to see about waiting it out, but by then it was raining too hard to not get soaked.

Truck stops were packed to the hilt, no room in the inn. There was a truck wash just across the way. Normally, we wouldn't park there, but this was dire circumstances. We pulled in there, J got out and got the generator started (thankfully we knew we already had fuel.) He put the slide outs out and put the awning out to try to keep as much of the rain out of the door as possible while we got the dogs unloaded and loaded into the trailer.

The rain was already ankle deep. Saphira, our youngest dog who is almost 4 years old can jump in and out of the truck with no problem.  Our older dog, Deja is 9 years old and we use a ramp to load and unload here from the truck so J gracefully got the ramp out and helped me get her out of the truck and into the trailer through ankle deep water.

We were soaked, the trailer floor was soaked, the dogs were soaked.

Thankfully, we were all together, we had towels to dry everything that was wet, a fan to help dry the floors and a safe place to wait out the storm.

Sometimes in times like these, I can see why God put my mom in my life. She loved gospel music more than air. She used to play it outside my room on the piano while I was supposed to be sleeping. It wasn't cool when I was younger, but in times like these, it brings the songs I used to hear to mind.

Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no moreTill the clouds roll forever from the skyHold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy handKeep me safe till the storm passes by

Three hours later, it was 4 am and the storm had passed.

J woke us up, D and I loaded up the dogs and we were back on the road. We headed through Kansas City around 4 am and avoided any traffic. Couldn't have worked out better.

this should be say 2 different crops

We caught up with J's parents in upper SD

Once we met up with them, D jumped in the truck with them and we all headed west!

If you continue reading through these posts and looking at my pictures, please don't be alarmed by how close it looks like I am to what I'm shooting.  I have a great camera with great zoom.  I promise, I was never at risk in any of the photos!
