This was a really neat stop! It's a little ways off the Interstate, but there are a couple great RV parks between the Interstate and Devil's Tower. We stayed at the KOA, which is literally, at the entrance of the Devil's Tower.
Several great things about this KOA - there is wildlife on the property. We saw a HUGE herd of wild turkeys and a couple doe and their fawn. In addition to the wildlife, the view of the Devil's Tower looks something like this

It's THAT close! This was taken in front of our rig!

This was on the way out of the park, they were in no hurry for us to leave.

There's one of the fawn there by the orange reflection and the turkeys are trying to get through the fence.
The KOA here has a nightly showing of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I would have like to have taken D to watch it, but he went and watched a movie with his grandparents instead.
Ok, so enough about the KOA.
Remember how when we were still in Wall our battery died? Well, our truck takes TWO batteries to work. We had replaced one earlier this year, but with the dealership leaving the hood up for a week and weakening the batteries and one going down, we were concerned that with the weather being colder and the possibility that the other battery might have gotten damaged by being depleated so much, it might be a good idea to get a spare battery just in case the recently purchased battery goes bad too. So after dinner, J and I headed into the nearest bigger town to get a battery.
It was about sundown when we left we really hadn't thought it through. We had around 20 miles to drive on the windy, hilly road towards the interstate, then a 15 mile drive to the nearest larger town to find a battery. Well...... There are deer on those roads .... I don't mean a couple, I don't mean 5 or 10, I mean HUNDREDS! Herds of deer, zigging and zagging across and along the roadways around every curve and over every hill.
About halfway to the interstate we considered just turning around and getting the battery at another time. But knowing we'd be stranded without both batteries, we didn't want to take a chance, so onward! We didn't find the battery in town. Come to find out the 4 places we checked in town don't carry larger batteries. :(
We headed back to the campground in hopes the deer were tucked safely in bed and not going to cause us any problems, and they didn't.

Devil's Tower is beautiful from every side. We did the walk around and really enjoyed watching the climbers, studying the prayer cloths, prayer beads, and decorations tied to the trees and the beauty around the tower.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.
This was the drive in

if you look close at these tower pics, you can see the climbers. I'll post more close up pics towards the bottom

J's Dad is a hoot! We did the walk around the tower and he loved it, even if this was his main response. :)

As we were heading in to the tower, we saw this guy running from the road area up to some brush.

Here's some climber close-ups
